Weekend Roundup - September 27-28

8U Mites

From Coach Dean: The Mite-y Jr Blue Hens traveled to Bristol, PA on Saturday morning to take on the Senators. They were a bit short staffed, with only 6 kids making the trip, so the skating legs were tested early. In order to help with the line changes, the game was played 3v3. The Hens fought hard in the second half of the game but came up short. Final score 16-5.

10U A Squirts

From Coach Chris: On Saturday, we played the Exton Kings for the first time this season.  Again, we discussed focus and coming to the rink with the right mindset, ready for anything, but most importantly, ready to give our best effort on the ice.  It was clear the boys took that message to heart, as we were ready to play at the first puck drop.  We put up 4 unanswered goals in the first period, outshooting them 15-6.  The work we've been putting in at practice showed, as the boys executed on all the things we've been working on in practice that help us lead to success.  Some overconfidence got to us in the third period, with some breakdowns that led to some unnecessary goals, but the boys continued to battle, and we were able to come away with the win, as well as outshooting them 29-18.

On Sunday, it was revenge time... or so we thought.  We fell to the Chester County Cougars for the second time this season by a score of 6-4.  We maintained control of the game for the most part, again, doubling them up in shots, however ran into a hot goaltender who made some great saves to keep them in the game.  More importantly, they made us pay for the breakdowns that we did have... each goal being easily preventable with some simple changes in our coverage and/or effort that we've continuously discussed, but failed to execute on.  Overall, I was still proud of the team as they continued to battle hard to the end of the game despite some deflating saves from the opposing goaltender as well as some preventable goals against.

10U B Squirts

Saturday: Triumph in Odenton

The 10U B the team started the weekend with a decisive non-league victory, traveling to Odenton, MD to take on Navy. The team came out strong, securing an impressive 8-3 win! It was a great showing of offensive power and teamwork to get the weekend rolling.

Sunday: A True Test of Grit

Sunday brought an early challenge with a 7 AM home game against the undefeated Exton Kings. It was a hard-fought battle from start to finish. Though the team suffered their first league loss of the season, falling 6-4, the players held their own with exceptional effort and defensive play.

Finn, Avery, and Travis all found the back of the net, contributing the four goals.  Goalie Aiden McGrath was sharp throughout the entire game, making smooth, critical saves to keep the Hens in the fight. The entire team showed remarkable defensive discipline, matching the competition's intensity for all three periods.

Weekend MVP

This weekend's MVP is Travis Hassler! Travis delivered a dominating performance on both ends of the ice, showcasing his skill and hustle in every shift. His contributions were essential to the team's strong showing throughout the weekend.

12U A American PeeWee

From Coach Mike: On Saturday the 12UA team hosted the Reading Royals. We knew going in that this would be a tough matchup, and we fell down 1-0 just 20 seconds into the game. Despite some really good scoring opportunities throughout the game, we were unable to slip 1 past their goalie. This team presented some new challenges for us and definitely gave us some things to work on in practice for when we meet them again. Final score, Reading 6, JBH 0. We have 2 away games this weekend so we’re looking forward to hopefully starting another winning streak!

12U B National Peewee

12U B kicked off a 2 game weekend with a Saturday afternoon home game against the Princeton Jr Tigers. With this being our first match up, we weren’t quite sure what to expect but we did have a feeling they would bring it and we were not wrong. They came out on fire, skating like the ice was going to melt if they slowed down. An unbelievable 20 shots on goal in the first period that yielded 3 goals had us on the chase from the start. We regrouped during the first intermission, formulated a plan, and executed it in the 2nd period. Princeton found the back of the net first, scoring two goals in 90 seconds but Dom Brown wasn’t having it. He grabbed the puck on a breakaway and scored our first goal of the game. Once Princeton knew we could score, they stepped up the pace. During a hard core battle in the crease, Zoey Wiebke was able to sneak one in the five hole for her first goal of the regular season. We’ve been working on positioning and laying on the pressure with rebounds, and it’s paying off. Despite Bruno Herrera knocking one in halfway through the 3rd, we just couldn’t catch up and the game ended in a 8-3 loss. Andrew Kulp was a beast in the net, stopping an astounding 40 shots on goal. We played hard, learned what we need to work on, and left the rink determined to bring it even harder Sunday.

The Quakers had us up early Sunday morning for another home game in Gold. We were fired up from our loss the day before, and ready for redemption. The kids were dialed in and ready to dominate. Tyson McKinery started us off with a sweet goal in the first, followed by Jackson Callahan scoring his 3rd goal of the season. Quakers snuck one past us in the second, but we answered with two in the net courtesy of Frankie Bohenick and another from Jackson Callahan. Keeping our symmetry going we hit two more in the 3rd; Frankie came in hot on a pass from Jamie Funk and bringing us home for an impressive 6-1 win was Ty McKinery’s second goal, with an assist from Bruno.

Next up is a disgustingly early 7am game at Easton on Sunday, so we’re all aiming for an early bedtime Saturday night!

14U A American Bantam

The 14U Bantam team came to fight this weekend and boy did they ever.

On Saturday night, they played the Reading Royals at home. Andrew Nicholson scored first with an assist from Cash Scarborough. The next 2 goals were scored by Zachary Wright and Henry Jin, which tied the game 3-3. Toward the end of second period Cash Scarborough scored with an assist from Andrew Nicholson making the score 4-4. The Royals took the lead in third period, but Chase Watkins tied it up 5-5. The Royals took the lead and won the game with 6 minutes left, 6-5. Our Team played hard. McKayla Mellon was in net and was on fire.

On Sunday, they played the Exton Kings for an away game. Cash Scarborough scored first with an assist from Andrew Nicholson. Going into second period, the game was tied 1-1. Ernesto Boyd scored with assists from Rafa Mocorro and Chase Watkins. Third period the Kings tied the game 2-2. The Blue Hens won in overtime with a goal by Carter Mast. Clayton Sowders had a great game on Sunday and helped bring home the win. Way to go team.</div>
