Weekend Roundup - February 14-17 (Part 2)

14U AA

The 14U AA team also had a spot in the DVHL playoffs, playing in the final championship game against Genesis Hockey Club. From the DVHL:  Genesis Hockey Club Defeats Delaware Jr. Blue Hens 6-4 in High-Scoring Championship Battle:

The Genesis Hockey Club secured a hard-fought 6-4 League Championship victory over the Delaware Jr. Blue Hens, using a strong offensive surge in the third period to clinch the win. Despite Delaware’s resilience, Genesis’ offensive depth and strong goaltending were key in securing the win.  The game started with both teams exchanging early goals. Genesis took the lead at 7:24 when Roman Tkach found the net, assisted by Evan Wenhold. The Jr. Blue Hens responded at 4:43 with Jaxon Mackenzie scoring unassisted, tying the game 1-1 heading into the second period.

Genesis struck early in the second, taking a 2-1 lead at 10:57 with Nolan Senigo scoring off an assist from Cole Kucera. Just seconds later at 10:37, Jaxon Mackenzie answered for Delaware, tying it up once more with assists from Hudson Simon and Brenden Albert. Genesis regained momentum at 9:46 when Roman Tkach scored his second of the game, assisted by Cole Detweiler, making it 3-2. They extended their lead at 1:24 as Roman Tkach completed his hat trick with help from Lucas Grossman and Alexander Desantis. David Lavieri struck back for Delaware with a goal with just 40 seconds left in the period, assisted by Chase Mullarkey, sending Genesis into the final frame with a slim 4-3 lead.  Genesis widened the gap to 5-3 at 13:28 with Roman Trochym scoring, assisted by Riley Berger. At 13:17, Riley Berger netted another one for the Genesis, assisted by Roman Trochym. Then, at 4:27, David Lavieri secured his second goal of the game off another assist from Chase Mullarkey, cutting the lead to 6-4. Despite their push, the Jr. Blue Hens couldn’t overcome the deficit.

Eric Curtis Jr. (Genesis Hockey Club): Stopped 16 of 20 shots, holding strong in the third period to preserve the win. Luke Johnson (Delaware Jr. Blue Hens): Made 26 saves on 32 shots, facing heavy pressure from Genesis throughout the game.

Huge congratulations to our 14U AA team for the fight they put up, this weekend and all season.

12U B

From Team Manager Morgan: The 12U B team travelled to Exton to face the Kings in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon. Exton is a tough team to play, they’re fast skaters and quick puck handlers. Our kids were excited to play them, but slightly apprehensive given the way past match up’s have gone. They truly rallied, showing up ready to fight for a win. Both teams were very evenly matched and played a physical game on both sides. Like the last half of our season went, we came out strong and reinforced how far this team has come this year. Starting out short with only 9 players, we really struggled to hold our own but adding several skaters mid season made all the difference for our kids. They enveloped those new skaters in like they’d been there all along, grew as friends and teammates, and were able to end the season knowing they are truly able to compete on an even level with any team they may face. Ultimately the game ended in a 1 point loss for JBH but only according to the score. The rest was a big win, which is why we’re all here to begin with. Teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitudes prevailed. The kids left the ice with their heads held high, proud of the performance they gave.

10U A American

From Coach Chris: "Playoff bound... an unexpected outcome from the beginning of the season, but earned by all of the work put in by each member of this team.  Beginning the season with a mix of returning JBH 10U players, JBH Mites graduating to 10U, as well as incumbents from other organizations, the goal was to improve our hockey skills, learn to be resilient, learn to play like a champion, and perhaps win a few games along the way.  As the season began, we found immediate success, launching us into our playoff berth.  Throughout the season,  the boys bought in to our defensive strategy, our team mindset, and embraced the mantra that "when you put on that jersey, you represent yourself, and your teammates... and the name on the front, is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back".  While the outcome of the playoff's was not what we hoped for as we went 0-2 in double elimination, it doesn't define the success that we experienced all season.  We finished the regular season in second place, had the highest goal differential in the league of over 100,  and recorded 5 shutouts in league play.  I am extremely proud of the team for all that we accomplished this season, and it was incredibly humbling to watch them grow, both as hockey players and as young men.  I can't wait to see all of the great things they accomplish as they continue to develop and grow!”

10U B

From Coach Ben: 10U B had the weekend off but continue to be proactive and practice hard, looking forward to a St. Patrick’s Day tourney.

8U

From Coach Chris: 8U traveled to Pennsylvania to take on the Chester County Cougars on Sunday morning. The game started well, but after our first few shifts, we started hanging back and not attacking with speed, leading to time and space for the Cougars. They are are physically large and fast team, and they used their size and speed effectively to win puck races and battles, leading to a lot of time with the puck and scoring opportunities. It was a lopsided affair and the Cougars took the game 11-1, with Carter scoring our lone goal.

We will be heading to Buffalo this weekend for our final tournament of the year. It should be a fun trip for the players as we near the end of the season!
